What is a panel meter?
A panel meter or display is used as a process indicator. Often mounted in a control cabinet they are used to display a live measured process value. Panel meters range from simple 4...20 mA loop-powered devices to more flexible devices with programmable input and output options.

Designed for flexibility
Our displays are universal in nature, accepting virtually any process input signal, and capable of being powered by nearly any source. This makes them perfect for hundreds of applications, and our scrolling help text makes configuration very fast and easy. High galvanic isolation eliminates ground loops, and our high immunity to electromagnetic noise gives you the freedom to install the display anywhere in the panel. Multipoint linearization, multiple relay functions, and analog retransmission are available as options.
Install & Forget®
These displays are easily configured via PC, DIP switches or using built-in push buttons on the front of the unit making deployment fast and simple. All of our products are individually designed and validated to exceed the most demanding failure rate assessments. In addition we offer a 5-year warranty on all our products.
What types of process displays does PR electronics offer?
PR electronics offers two categories: loop-powered LCD indicators (PR 5531A for safe area/Zone 2, PR 5531B for Zone 1) that display the process value directly from the 4-20 mA loop without requiring an external power supply, and programmable LED indicators (PR 5714, 5715, 5725) with 14-segment LED displays that accept multiple input types and provide relay and analog outputs. The LED indicators are 1/8 DIN size (48 x 96 mm panel cutout: 44.5 x 91.5 mm) and offer universal AC/DC power supply.
What input types does the PR 5714 Programmable LED Indicator accept?
The PR 5714 accepts current (0-23 mA), voltage (0-12 VDC), resistance (0-10,000 Ω), RTD sensors (Pt, Ni, Cu families), all standard thermocouple types (B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S, T, U, W3, W5, LR), and potentiometers (10 Ω-100 kΩ). This universal input capability means a single display model can be used across different measurement applications — temperature, pressure, level, flow — by simply selecting the appropriate input type and scaling during configuration.
What relay output functions are available on the PR 5714 and PR 5715?
The PR 5714 provides 2 relay outputs, while the PR 5715 provides 4 relay outputs. Each relay is independently configurable for setpoint alarming with adjustable hysteresis (0-100% of span) and ON/OFF delays (0-3600 seconds). The relays are potential-free contacts rated at 250 VAC/VDC, 2 A, 500 VA. Functions include high alarm, low alarm, window alarm (band alarm), and sensor error detection. This allows the display to serve as both an indicator and an alarm unit, eliminating the need for a separate trip amplifier in many applications.
What is the front panel protection rating of PR electronics display products?
When properly panel-mounted with the supplied rubber packing gasket, the PR 5714, 5715, and 5725 achieve an IP65/Type 4X front panel protection rating. This means the display face is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from all directions, making it suitable for washdown environments in food & beverage and pharmaceutical facilities. The rear of the unit (within the panel) is IP20. The overall display unit weighs approximately 230 g.
What display accuracy and update rate do PR electronics indicators provide?
The PR 5714 achieves accuracy better than 0.1% of the selected range, with a display range of -1999 to 9999 and a programmable decimal point. The display updates 2.2 times per second, providing a smooth, readable presentation of the process value. The signal-to-noise ratio is a minimum of 60 dB across 0-100 kHz. When the measured value is outside the configured range, the display shows explanatory text rather than a numerical value, immediately alerting the operator to an abnormal condition.
Can the PR 5531 loop-powered indicator be installed in hazardous areas?
Yes. The PR 5531A is approved for safe area and Zone 2/Division 2 installation. The PR 5531B is specifically designed for Zone 1 installation. Both variants maintain loop-powered operation, meaning no external power supply is needed in the hazardous area. When combined with an I.S. barrier (e.g., PR 9106B) in the safe area, the entire loop — from sensor through transmitter and indicator to the control room — can be operated intrinsically safe. This makes the PR 5531B particularly useful for local indication at the point of measurement in classified areas.
What certifications do PR electronics display products carry?
The PR 5714, 5715, and 5725 carry UL listing (UL 508, file E248256), DNV EU-RO marine type approval, CE marking per EMC directive 2014/30/EU and LVD directive 2014/35/EU, UKCA, EAC certification, Metrology Pattern Approval (MPA, Russia), and RoHS compliance per 2011/65/EU. The operating temperature range is -20°C to +60°C. These approvals make PR electronics displays suitable for marine, general industrial, and regulated metrological applications worldwide.
