From hygienic production lines to heavy industrial applications, the PR sensors with PR transmitters ensure dependable measurement and control - every time.
What accuracy classes are available for PR electronics RTD sensors?
PR electronics RTD sensors are available in three IEC 60751 accuracy classes. Class A (e.g., PR 7400, 7405, 7480, 7600) provides a maximum deviation of ±0.15°C at 0°C. Class AA (PR 7406) offers the highest precision at ±0.10°C at 0°C. Class B 1/3 (PR 7404) and Class B 1/10 (PR 7810, 7850) provide tighter accuracy than standard Class B for demanding applications. The hygienic sensors (7810, 7850) with Class B 1/10 accuracy are specifically designed for pharmaceutical and food & beverage applications where strict traceability and precision are required.
What is the measuring range of PR electronics temperature sensors?
The measuring range depends on the sensor type and construction. General-purpose RTD sensors (PR 7400, 7405, 7406, 7480) cover -50°C to +400°C. The compact RTD sensor (PR 7802) covers -50°C to +180°C. Wall-mounted sensors (PR 7411C) operate from -40°C to +80°C ambient temperature. Hygienic sensors (PR 7810, 7850) cover -50°C to +250°C. The Ex-rated sensor (PR 7600) extends to -50°C to +500°C. High-temperature thermocouple sensors (PR 7450, 7451, 7452) reach -50°C to +850°C. The cryogenic wall-mount sensor (PR 7872) extends down to -196°C.
What process connections are available for PR electronics sensors?
Standard process connections include G ½ (ISO 228) with Ø30 packing surface for general-purpose sensors (PR 7400, 7405, 7406, 7450, 7452, 7480, 7600). The PR 7404 and 7451 offer G ½ or R ½ options. The compact sensor (PR 7802) uses G ¼. Hygienic sensors (PR 7810) use 1½" tri-clamp 50.5 mm connections, while the PR 7850 uses weld-in/Quicklock connections for clean-in-place (CIP) compatibility. The PR 7440 thermowell is specifically adapted for PR 7400 standard sensors with G ½/G ½ configuration.
What is a thermowell (PR 7440), and when is it required?
A thermowell is a closed-end protective tube that is permanently installed in a process vessel or pipeline. The temperature sensor is inserted into the thermowell, allowing the sensor to be removed for calibration or replacement without shutting down the process or breaking the pressure boundary. The PR 7440 is made from acid-proof stainless steel (EN 1.4571/AISI 316Ti) and is adapted for PR 7400-series sensors with G ½ process connections. Thermowells are required in high-pressure applications and wherever sensors must be replaceable during operation.
What are PR electronics' hygienic sensor solutions for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries?
PR electronics offers purpose-built hygienic sensors: the PR 7810 (stainless steel RTD with 1½" tri-clamp connection) and PR 7850 (stainless steel RTD with weld-in/Quicklock connection). Both achieve Pt100 4-wire Class B 1/10 accuracy over -50°C to +250°C. Supporting accessories include the PR 7852 thermowell with Quicklock, PR 7853 Quicklock head (PG9 electrical connector), and PR 7854 hygienic Quicklock adapter. The Quicklock system allows tool-free sensor removal for calibration verification, supporting compliance with FDA, EHEDG, and 3-A sanitary standards.
What is the PR 7600 Ex-rated RTD sensor, and where is it used?
The PR 7600 is an intrinsically safe (Ex i) RTD sensor certified for installation in Zone 0, 1, and 2 hazardous areas. It provides IEC 60751 Class A accuracy (±0.15°C at 0°C within the -30°C to +300°C range) with a measuring range of -50°C to +500°C. The sensor is designed for direct connection to I.S. barriers (e.g., PR 9106B, 9113B) or I.S.-rated head-mounted transmitters. It is used in oil & gas, chemical, and pharmaceutical facilities where the sensor itself is exposed to potentially explosive atmospheres.
What materials are PR electronics sensors and thermowells made from?
PR electronics sensors and thermowells are primarily manufactured from stainless steel for corrosion resistance and longevity. The protective tubes use EN 1.4571/AISI 316Ti acid-proof stainless steel. Terminal heads follow DIN 43729 form B in lacquered aluminum. The PR 7401 instrument housing is available in both aluminum and 316 stainless steel versions with IP54-IP68 protection ratings. Hygienic sensors use electropolished stainless steel surfaces suitable for CIP cleaning. Sensing elements are thin-film platinum resistors (Pt100) for RTD sensors and type K (NiCr-Ni) thermocouple wires.
