Multifunctional transmitters
Benefits and applications
In this tech talk Kyle Ashbach and Chris McDonald explain how multifunctional transmitters bring universal input, output and power together in a single device.
A compact unit can handle current, voltage, frequency, potentiometer, resistance, RTD and thermocouple signals, while the programmable relays make it straightforward to add alarms and simple control functions.
They also explore the cost and practical advantages such as fewer transmitter types to stock, less panel space required, simpler purchasing and shorter training time for maintenance teams.
Using a real pump station example they show how a single transmitter can monitor flow, trigger an alarm in case of blockage and automatically switch to a backup pump to keep the process running.
