NISSEN energy a/s is a Danish specialist in sustainable energy solutions. The company delivers complete systems for biogas, gas engines (combined heat and power, CHP), gas treatment and cooling, gas upgrading and flares.
Their work centers on converting raw biogas into higher-value energy, including upgrading it to natural gas quality for customers in Denmark and abroad.
The application: biogas cleaning
In a recent gas cleaning and cooling project, NISSEN energy supplied their treatment plant design to purify biogas before it continues into the upgrading system. Biogas often contains water, siloxanes and hydrogen sulfide, which must be removed to protect gas engines, compressors and the membrane technology used to upgrade the gas to natural gas quality.
For this application, PR electronics provided ATEX-certified transmitters, signal conversion devices, repeaters and a Bluetooth-enabled display for integration in the electrical cabinet. This setup allows the devices to be configured through a single 4512 display, with live data and parameter adjustments available directly from a mobile device or iPad.

NISSEN energy’s challenges
- The gas cleaning system contains a broad selection of different types of instrumentation such as temperature sensors, pressure transmitters, switches which make setup, monitoring and service complex.
- Technicians needed quicker access to live data and easier ways to adjust settings because manual configuration of each module slowed down commissioning and maintenance work.
- The system operates in a hazardous area, so reliable equipment and the correct ATEX-certified components were needed to ensure safe and compliant operation.
The solution

- A unified interface where the devices can be configured from one display, providing one screen and one app for the entire system.
- The PR 4512 display enables easy storage of configuration files for installed devices, for example in a centralized cloud-based repository. This allows configuration files to be accessed at any time and from any location, simplifying module replacement and ensuring that replacement units are configured identically.
